About Me

Hi! My name is Sydney and I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and young adults who may be experiencing changes, feeling different from their peers, having trouble understanding their emotions, or just need someone to talk to. I aim to make therapy a fun, comfortable, and creative space. I love finding ways to help others that allows them to express themselves in ways that are comfortable for them. This can include drawing comic strips, painting, making films, writing stories, and interacting with animals. Whatever idea you have, I’m always excited to try it!

meet Juno! she will hopefully be a certified therapy dog in the future (if she ever sits still for more than two seconds)

Experience

I have provided therapy to children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, childhood abuse, autism, grief, gender and sexuality exploration, bullying, self-esteem issues, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I have multiple years of experience providing services to children, adults, and families in settings such as child advocacy centers, community mental health agencies, and schools.

Therapeutic Approach

I approach therapy with warmth, patience, and understanding. The therapeutic relationship alone is the greatest determinant of success in therapy. Forming a connection with my clients is essential. I enjoy incorporating art, play, games, and media into therapy, if that is something that interests you or your child.

Education

I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker -Clinical (LCSW-C License #28728) and I obtained my Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University as well as my Bachelor of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Washington College.

My favorite Animal Crossing villager, Rex, and I.

In my free time, you’ll probably find me spending time with my dogs, going for a walk (and taking pictures of every flower I see), playing Animal Crossing, or watching TV. I think a lot of joy and meaning can be gained through media, if we’re intentional about what we watch and how much time we spend watching it. My all time favorite shows are The Office, Succession, and Over the Garden Wall, but I always have a current show that I will be dying to talk to someone about. My favorite movies are School of Rock and Fantastic Mr. Fox. I am also a huge sucker for a good comedy special and my favorite comedians are Bo Burnham, Mike Birbiglia, and Jenny Slate. I love to read as well and am always looking for good book recommendations.
