Anxiety

When we’re in a state of anxiety, it can be difficult to stop our thoughts from circling. When we’re caught in our ruminating thoughts, our body responds (stomachache, headache, racing heartbeat, difficulty breathing, dizziness, etc.). The excerpt below from the movie Eighth Grade encapsulates how confusing and exhausting anxiety is. Its constant presence can be overwhelming. Anxiety can present itself in many different ways, making it difficult to decipher what’s actually going on under the surface.

You may be experiencing panic attacks and looking for a way to ground yourself and prevent them from happening. Maybe your child is reluctant to go to school or reporting stomachaches or headaches each morning. Anxiety can present in obvious physical symptoms or hide in one’s mind, going unnoticed by those around them.

Therapy can help.

In therapy, you will become more aware of the symptoms of your anxiety and learn skills to ground and soothe yourself. Therapy can help you recognize unhelpful thought patterns that are causing anxiety and change the way you think. Therapy can help you practice mindfulness and be more present in your daily life, alleviating anxiety that accompanies ruminating about the future or past.

Fear is embedded in anxiety, and I know it can be scary to take this first step to go to therapy.

I am here to help alleviate any anxiety you may have about the therapeutic process. Please feel free to email, call, or message me on here about any fears, apprehensions, or questions you have about therapy.
