Self-Esteem

Having low self-esteem makes us see ourselves in a negative light, making it difficult to navigate life’s ups and downs. Expectations put on us by others or ourselves can be difficult to live up to. It’s common for people with low self-esteem to isolate themselves, avoiding challenges and feeling safer by themselves. It could also be the opposite, feeling afraid to be alone with your own thoughts because they are so negative and critical.

However low self-esteem shows up in your life, therapy can help.

I use a strengths-based perspective with all the individuals I see. In therapy, we will work together to recognize your strengths and build upon them. I know some of you are probably sitting there thinking, “What if I don’t have any strengths?” I promise you, after one session, you will be able to name multiple of your strengths.

If you’re struggling with feeling not “good enough” in your relationships, job, friendships, or just feel like being alone with your own thoughts is not fun, therapy can help.

Maybe your child is feeling out of place and is constantly hard on themselves. Therapy can provide them with an outlet for these feelings and thoughts, while providing them with skills to counter their inner critic.

It can be difficult to ask for help. Individuals who struggle with low self-esteem often equivocate asking for help with admitting defeat. I would argue that asking for help demonstrates perseverance and bravery.

You can’t know all the answers.

Therapy can be done in person or virtually, whatever feels most comfortable for you. The most important thing to me is that you feel comfortable during our time together. If you have ideas on how to make therapy more comfortable for you, please feel free to discuss them with me!
